This award is the highlight of the ATA National Truck Driving Championships. The Grand Champion is selected through a handicapping system which takes into consideration the differences in vehicle operating characteristics in the different classes of competition. Therefore, the Bendix NTDC Grand Champion is not necessarily the individual with the highest cumulative total score. The Grand Champion formula identifies the individual who did well in all areas of competition plus how much greater the National Champion outscored his/her fellow class contestants in the Skills Test.
